Over at Oishii, we were knee deep in NFL branding. I was lucky enough to be part of campaign that promoted the next Super Bowl. It was a live action campaign that incorporated NFL heavy weights manipulating an interactive table with our designed graphics composited on it. I was leading the R/D for this project and above are the motion tests. My hairy hand is in the first movie- which was just shot in a garage with no lighting or anything. The real trick was how to make the graphics "stick" or not "stick" to the hand manipulating it, as well as retaining a natural look.

Check out the finished spots for NFL-Post Season at Oishii Creative

Below are other tests where I began using C4D to add natural motion to the graphics but then dynamically bounce back to a position reminiscent to a tablet graphic interface. In the end, we used After Effects for all the table tracked graphics.

<description>The good peeps at Lussier hired me to design interstitials and an end page for American Dad. I previously created a package for American Dad that they loved, so they came back for more- always a good sign. These projects are super fun to do, and Lussier gives me a lot of creative freedom. Below are two different concepts I presented, they ended up choosing the "airshow" version.

<description>Brkly asked me to help on a continuing Food Network job called Around The World In 80 Plates. The logo was already approved when I designed these style frames, so I just added my 2 cents. The concept for my frames is that the "trails" are the same bands that make up the latitude and longitude frames in the end frame globe. As the plane travels from one location to the next, it draws on and creats the landscapes for our chefs to be introduced.

<description>The good peeps at Brkly called on me to help out with some logo designs for a new HGTV show called White Room Challenge. The contestants start with a completely white room and design it in a competition. Best design and use of materials wins. I designed this logo in the same vein as the old MTV logo where the interior walls would always switch out. I love logos like this because you can update them and keep them fresh but still maintain the integrity of the design.

<description>Brkly hired me to help out on a sales pitch to conceptualize a new show- but instead of style frames or storyboards, they wanted a one-sheet that said it all in one image. In the vein of X Factor or American Idol, this talent show uses an online social aspect as their judges. These judges determine the winners. It's a tough assignment to design something like this without making it look like the Architect's room in the Matrix, so I'm really happy with the way these posters came together.

<description>Hallmark had me redesign their Movie Channel for 2010. There was a lot of exploration for this. They wanted to keep that movie feel, but also get away from the look they've had through out the years which was light based animation. I like the exploration frames, but in retrospect, the direction we went with was the obvious choice. I think I was able to take the desired styleand push it further so it became something a little more unique than just another light based animation style. I designed the entire package and created the initial animation that set the tone for rest of the motion work.

<description>Most of the illustration I do these days is for drawing storyboards for large 3d projects, like for Aol Studios or something to compliment a styleframe like Huge. Other times, while waiting for a render, I'll let my mind wander and just draw random things using a pen (where mistakes are permanent).

<description>Motiv Films did a lot of work for Spike TV, and Bullrun was one of their premier shows. These were some boards I created that I really liked. It was Cannonball Run meets The Man Show. Too bad Spike didn't go for it.

		<description>

This was an ongoing personal project. This movie consists of only 3 completed shots out of (about) a 5 minute short story. Free to design and animate anything I wanted, I unfortunately never gave myself a deadline, and the time has come where I can't dedicate anymore time. For now, please look at this piece as a work in progress- that hopefully one day finishes.

1AM's concept is about the human race's extinction because of its dependence of fossil fuels. Aliens come to earth to re-seed and start over. The first two shots, which are missing had a team "cutters" slashing down dead trees and foliage, clearing the way for the reseeding process. That narrative would lead the viewer to believe that these little machines were destroying the earth, rather than trying to help it. A lone alien decides to abandon it's job, curious after questioning why it is tasked with destroying what's left of life on the mostly barren planet.

Thats where these three shots come in.

It turns out these cutters (and the aliens driving them) are just grunts doing their job. When it finds this old broken down gas station, his curiosity gives a clue to what happened, and confirms that this is earth in the future. The story obviously goes on, but I'll leave you with that. Maybe one day this piece will get finished.

Thanks to Roy Burns, my little teaser has music and sound design.

This project initially began after I designed a robot character for Imaginary Forces. The character was a spin on a "fire eater" in the circus and the project was AICP. After toying with the idea of animating this character, I came up with a rough treatment that was set in the future, in which this robot was a device to reboot life on earth. I designed, modeled, textured, and animated everything and did the composite in after effects. This was a real learning process, but definitely a labor of love.

I have a ton of research and development material from this project. Here are some of those elements. I always find it interesting to look back and see the process. Some things work, some things don't, and how I solved problems.

Animatic for the cutter's hand.

Animatic for one individual tube (of many) for the mother ships seed delivery system.

Test animation for the GI lighting and the proximal shader for the tracks in the sand.

Wireframe of shots 2 and 3. Note, I was debating having flags on all the "cutters".

Mothership dropping the seeding tube (ROUGH) animatic.

Designed, animated and composited.

<description>While working at Motiv Films in Santa Monica, we were presented with a lot of live action work, and a lot of it came from Spike TV. I was tasked with formulating a year long campaign made up of live action shorts that made up a full story by years end. These shorts would double as bumpers and IDs. This concept revolved around a hospital victim that lost his memory. How he came to his situation is revealed in these short clips, always ending in a cliff hanger- until the end of the year. The idea was to have this "mystery man" be the spike mascot- and his memories would be the metaphor for the spike audience. These are style frames just to push the concept.
